VietNamNet Bridge – The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has announced that it will release the VND100 banknote as souvenirs to commemorate SBV’s 65th anniversary (6/5/1951 - 6/5/2016).

Many countries have released souvenir banknotes to celebrate the tradition of their currency and tserve the needs of individual collectors.

The SBV said the souvenir banknote of its 65th anniversary wasissued to recognize outstanding developments of the banking sector, promote the image of the country, national history and the Vietnamese banknote to the world.

The souvenir banknote will be larger than the conventional polymer banknotes of Vietnam, made with cotton paper and in red.  The front of then ore contains the national emblem, the portrait of President Ho Chi Minh, the name State Bank of Vietnam, the par value of VND100 printed boldly and the 65th anniversary logo of the central bank.

Mr. Dao Minh Tu, SBV Deputy Governor said, the central bank has been permitted by the Government to call for sponsors for the design and printing of this kind of souvenir banknote.

This is the 2nd time the central bank has issued the souvenir banknote after the first time in 2001, with the VND50 banknote to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the SBV (1951-2001).

Tu said the banknote would be made with the most modern technology in the world, similarto the technique used to print the US dollars. This is a test for printing of true currency of Vietnam in the future.

In the market, the souvenir banknote will be sold for VND20,000/single banknote and VND25,000/Foder (sheet of banknote, wrapped in envelope together with Vietnamese - English annotation).
