While in Vietnam, Volodin held talks with National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. He also paid a courtesy visit to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
At the meetings, the leaders stressed that the visit is of important significance and continues a series of high-ranking delegation exchanges between Vietnam and Russia, aiming to foster the bilateral extensive cooperation, and marking a new step of development in the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive partnership.
They discussed cooperation contents between the two countries and their law-making bodies. They reviewed growing parliamentary ties, which have seen the regular exchange of all-level delegations, mutual coordination, support and consultation at multilateral parliamentary forums in the region and in the world.
In their capacity, the NA of Vietnam and the State Duma will spare no effort in assisting Vietnam-Russia collaboration in all fields, creating favorable legal frameworks to promote bilateral economy-trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchange at all levels, particularly between Vietnamese and Russian localities.
Volodin stated Russia is willing to provide Vietnam with more scholarships to train high-school Russian language teachers, in addition to 1,000 scholarships granted to Vietnamese students.
A highlight of the visit is the signing of an agreement on the establishment of an inter-parliamentary cooperation committee between the NA of Vietnam and the State Duma. It is the first time the NA had set up such a collaboration mechanism with a foreign legislative body, which reflected political trust between the two nations’ high-ranking leaders and determination to enhance parliamentary cooperation.
On the occasion, the State Duma delegation laid a wreath at the Monument for Martyrs, paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum, and visited the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site in Hanoi.-VNA
