The operations of a stone quarry run by the  Asia Mineral Joint Stock Company were suspended yesterday after a collapse killed a worker and injured two others in Nghe An Province.

The accident took place on Saturday in Chau Hong Commune, Quy Hop District.

The injured are being treated at the Quy Hop General Hospital in the central province’s Vinh City.

Workers were mining stone at the foot of a mountain when big rocks suddenly dropped from the mountaintop and buried them. One was killed immediately and two were seriously injured.

Local police are investigating the accident.

It is estimated that there are more than 40 stone quarries operating in Quy Hop District now. — VNS
