An ancient stone stele featuring the name of a Nguyen Dynasty emperor's wife was found underground in an ongoing car park project near the Tomb of Emperor Dong Khanh and Tomb of Emperor Tu Duc in Hue city.
According to Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Centre for Conservation of Hue Monuments, after conducting a search mission in the car park project near Imperial Tombs of Emperor Dong Khanh and Tu Duc in Thuy Xuan ward, Hue city, the relevant unit found an ancient stone stele with the name of a Nguyen Dynasty emperor's wife on it.
The ancient stone stele featuring the name of a Nguyen Dynasty emperor's wife.
According to Mr. Hai, phrase “Tien Trieu Tai Nhan Cuu Giai Le Thi Thuy Thuc Thuan Chi Mo” is carved on the surface of the ancient stele.
"Through the words written on the stone stele, we can say for sure that it is the gravestone of a Nguyen Dynasty emperor's wife of the ninth rank - the lowest among wives of an emperor. Her name is Le Thi Thuy, however, we still have to clarify which emperor was her husband", said Mr. Hai.
Previously, residents of Thuy Xuan ward, living near the area of the Tomb of Emperor Tu Duc reported that Chuoi Gia Tri Company, which is implementing the above mentioned car park project, flattened the area that was widely believed to be the tomb of Tu Duc Emperor's wife.
Functional forces then stopped all construction activities in the area and searched for relics.
