Ten airports, including Vinh, Tho Xuan, Dong Hoi, and Phu Bai, are affected as Storm No. 5 approaches Vietnam.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has issued an urgent directive to strengthen storm preparedness. In addition to the four airports directly in the storm’s path, Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Van Don, Da Nang, Chu Lai, and Pleiku airports have been instructed to remain on high alert for unexpected developments.

For Vinh Airport, CAAV has ordered immediate deployment of storm response measures, ensuring facilities are secured and ready to recover quickly from any damage.

CAAV also directed all aviation units to maintain 24/7 duty shifts and strictly follow emergency procedures for storm and tropical depression response in civil aviation operations. Airlines and air service providers have been asked to enhance coordination, monitor weather closely, and adjust flight schedules to ensure safety.

Van Don International Airport and airports under the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) in affected regions must inspect infrastructure, communication systems, and promptly repair any damage to minimize disruption.

According to the Aviation Meteorological Center, Storm No. 5 is extremely strong, expansive, and fast-moving, posing severe risks. From the night of August 24 to the end of August 26, widespread heavy rainfall is expected in the Northern Delta, southern Phu Tho, and from Thanh Hoa to Hue, with accumulations of 100-150 mm and localized totals above 250 mm. Particularly, areas from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri may experience rainfall of 200-400 mm, with some places exceeding 700 mm. Intense downpours of more than 200 mm in three hours are also forecast.

In Nghe An, authorities have suspended all sea operations from 5 a.m. on August 24. Border guards have fired flares and issued urgent signals to call fishing vessels back to shore for shelter.
