VietNamNet Bridge - This year, there will be about 10 to 12 storms and tropical depressions in the East Sea, with four to five directly affecting the mainland of Vietnam, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecast.
675 households in areas at risk of landslides and storms will be relocated this year, and the rest will be removed from the dangerous areas before the end of 2016, according to a plan that has just been approved by HCM City authorities.
The central region has suffered from 11 typhoons and floods so far this year. It has also incurred the human-made floods when hydropower plants discharge water. Tens of thousands of families lead a destitute life.
VietNamNet Bridge – A United Nations report has highlighted that while fewer people are losing their lives due to natural disasters in Vietnam, floods, storms and other disasters are still wreaking havoc and causing huge economic losses.
VietNamNet Bridge – Cao Duc Phat, head of the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, said that forecasting storms has become much more difficult due to factors such as climate change.
