The monkey's appearance has affected life of many families in Phuc Tan Ward

The monkey has broken into households in Nguyen Tu Gian Street, Phuc Tan Ward, damaging their furniture.

However, the animal is quick and cautious so it is quite difficult for people to catch.

Local residents said that the monkey climbs onto roofs to seek food and has damaged some furniture.

Nguyen Thu Ha who lives in Nguyen Tu Gian Street, said that the monkey weighs 4-5 kilos with grey yellow fur.

“It climbs on my roof and then comes to nearby households to eat food in their kitchens. It even tears clothes hung outside,” he added.

Another local resident Do Ngoc Quyen said that some days ago, the monkey broke into his house, smashed his fish tanks.

Mai Anh Tuan, chairman of Phuc Tan Ward, said that there are two monkeys which have recently disturbed households in Nguyen Tu Gian Street. They live on the banks of the Red River.

The municipal forest management board has sent two staff to catch the monkeys in collaboration with local people.

The monkeys are thought to have originally been pets raised by someone as they have chain and bell around their necks. Once caught, they will be handed over to the city’s forest management board, Tuan noted.
