The highlights of the 2016 Hung Kings Temple Festival will be a street folk festival in Viet Tri entitled 'Viet Tri - festive city returning to the roots' and a high-range firework display.

The information was announced by the festival organising board at a press conference held by the Phu Tho provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Information and Communications in Hanoi on March 30.

As scheduled, this year's festival will take place on April 12-16 (the sixth to tenth day of the third lunar month) at the Hung Kings Temple relic site and localities near the Hung Kings Temple. The event will be organised by Phu Tho province with the participation of Hung Yen, Binh Thuan and Ca Mau provinces.

The street folk festival will take place on April 12 with the parade and performance of 1,800 people, featuring folk culture of the province. The street festival will conclude with a high-range firework display at Van Lang Park.

In addition to familiar activities, the Hung Kings Temple Festival 2016 will include new activities such as a photo and documentary exhibition on the Hung Kings worship rituals, a display of artefacts and documents on the intangible cultural value of Xoan singing in Phu Tho province, and an exhibition on fine arts works and photos by photographers from Phu Tho, among others.

The event aims to honour cultural values of the Hung Kings era, promote the values of Xoan singing and boost tourism development in Phu Tho province.

Along with the establishment of a press centre, the organising board will allow the operation of flycams.

A 24/24 hotline will be set up to receive calls from visitors to handle misconduct during the festival.
