Quy Hang, a 12th grader, said after the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) decided that students will have multiple-choice exam questions for high-school finals, her teachers changed the teaching method.

“In the past, we received new knowledge for 12th graders during curricular lessons and reviewed knowledge for 10th and 11th graders in the afternoon. But now teachers only focus on giving knowledge designed for the 12th grade,” she explained.

Hang went on to say that the tests she has to do in class have also been designed by teachers in a new way to prepare well for multiple-choice questions.

However, she emphasized that teachers still focus on providing knowledge instead of practicing the skills to solve multiple-choice questions.

Hang, like her friends, now goes to an exam preparation center in the evening, where she practices the skills of solving multiple choice exam questions.

NTH, a student of Nguyen Van Cu High School in Gia Lam district in Hanoi, also said the MOET’s decision on multiple-choice questions has changed the way of teaching and learning at school.

“With the old way of raising questions, we paid attention to the explanation in details. But now, with multiple-choice questions, we need to practice the skills of calculating quickly,” he said.

Dao Tuan Dat, headmaster of Einstein High School in Hanoi, confirmed that the teaching and learning of math at the school have adapted to the new circumstances.

Teachers will have to be sure that they provide knowledge with large coverage on many matters instead of focusing on some matters.

In the past, teachers asked students to pay attention to explaining the ways they solved questions, but now they have asked students to focus on the results.

However, Dat said students still have to receive knowledge as usual because only by understanding the knowledge will they be able to give answers to questions.

Many exam preparation centers have been established over the last month, after MOET announced the decision on multiple-choice questions.

On http://m…vn, there is an ad about an exam preparation course with tuition of VND600,000. The administrator said that students can access a system of 10,000 multiple-choice questions updated regularly which effectively helps students prepare for the 2017 high school finals.

Meanwhile, http://bikip…vn provide four forms of preparing for high school finals, from videos, books, live stream and private tutoring with teachers.
