On March 29, 2026, Sun PhuQuoc Airways - the airline of Sun Group - officially launched its first international route connecting Phu Quoc and Taipei (Taiwan, China), marking an important step in its strategy to link the island with global markets and position it as an emerging international aviation gateway.
Inaugural flight marks milestone expansion

Flight 9G 510 departed Phu Quoc International Airport at 11:30 (Vietnam time) and landed at Taoyuan International Airport at 16:10 (local time). On the return leg, the aircraft carried more than 200 passengers from Taiwan (China) to Phu Quoc, signaling the airline’s entry into the international market.

Operating five flights per week, the route is the first international service under the airline’s “Rise to Asia” network development strategy. The addition of a Vietnamese carrier operating direct flights to Taiwan (China) is expected to strengthen connectivity while promoting trade and tourism between the two destinations.

According to 2025 data, Taiwan (China) accounted for approximately 1.2 million visitors to Vietnam, making it one of the country’s leading inbound markets. However, visitor numbers to Phu Quoc have not yet reached their full potential, largely due to limited direct flight connections.

The launch of this route is expected to significantly shorten travel time, increase flight frequency and improve the quality of inbound tourism. The airline also plans to expand services to Kaohsiung in the near future, further consolidating its presence in this market.
Expanding network to connect Phu Quoc with Asia
The Taipei route marks the beginning of Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ international expansion plan for 2026. The airline aims to launch nine routes connecting Phu Quoc with major Asian hubs, including Seoul, Busan, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi and Mumbai.

Amid ongoing volatility in the aviation sector, the airline is adopting a selective growth strategy, focusing on markets with strong demand and high growth potential. This approach aligns with Phu Quoc’s positioning as a leading leisure destination while ensuring operational efficiency and long-term stability for partners and travel operators.
Building a full-service travel experience

Alongside network expansion, Sun PhuQuoc Airways is positioning itself as a full-service carrier, offering a comprehensive onboard experience that includes meals, checked baggage and a dedicated Business Class cabin designed for privacy and comfort.
From April 1, 2026, the airline will introduce the Sun Executive Lounge at Phu Quoc International Airport, enhancing the passenger experience from the very start of the journey.
The travel experience is further strengthened through integration with Sun Group’s ecosystem on the island. Passengers can enjoy discounts of up to 30% on accommodation, dining and entertainment services, creating a seamless connection between air travel and destination experiences.
Toward a new aviation hub

From an infrastructure perspective, Sun Group’s involvement in managing and operating Phu Quoc International Airport, in collaboration with Changi Airports International, is gradually elevating service standards toward a five-star model. This effort is enhancing the airport’s capacity to handle international traffic while shaping Vietnam’s first “airport destination” concept.
The launch of the Taipei route, along with the arrival of more than 200 passengers on its inaugural return flight, represents a significant milestone for Sun PhuQuoc Airways. It not only contributes to tourism growth but also strengthens Phu Quoc’s position on the regional aviation map.
