The stage, stretching from Vung Tau to Thu Dau Mot in Binh Duong, saw a flurry of early attacks. A breakaway group of five strong riders quickly formed, including three foreign competitors: Janssen, Roman Maikin of An Giang, and Pawel Szostka of Military Zone 7.
The group established a significant gap over the peloton, at one point extending their lead to more than six minutes.
At the intermediate sprint points, Pawel Szostka and Roman Maikin engaged in a fierce contest, splitting the rewards between them.
However, as the race entered its decisive phase, Christoph Janssen made the defining move. Launching a powerful solo attack, the Dong Thap rider maintained a steady cadence and crossed the finish line first in Thu Dau Mot, marking his second stage win of the tournament.
Despite the excitement, the results of stage 20 did not alter the overall standings. Yarash Uladzislau of TP.HCM New Group retained the yellow jersey, while Pham Le Xuan Loc of Military Zone 7 continued to hold the orange jersey for the best Vietnamese rider.
Tran Trong Phuc of Dong Nai kept the white jersey for the best young rider, and Marchuk Dzianis of Kenda Dong Nai remained in the green jersey standings as the sprint leader. TP.HCM Vinama continued to lead the team classification.
On April 26, the race moves into its longest stage, covering 200km from Binh My in Ho Chi Minh City to Ninh Kieu in Can Tho.
