Ta So village in Chieng Hac commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province is home to more than 330 households, 100% of whom are H’Mong ethnic people.
The village has a colder climate than the lowland villages by 4-6 degrees Celsius, with high mountain terrain. Currently, the village is divided into two parts: Ta So 1 and Ta So 2.
Previously, the lives of the villagers were very difficult, due to difficult travel, agricultural products were transported for more than half a day to reach the main road. Therefore, most people here lived in self-sufficiency.
In 2019, with the support of the State, the villagers joined together to build a wide concrete road to the village, narrowing the distance between Ta So village and neighboring villages and the town. Thanks to this new road, villagers have actively learned from experience in planting and developing many types of crops that bring high economic efficiency; converting many hilly land areas to grow fruit trees to raise their income.
At the end of 2021, many households decided to come together and learn from the experience of cultural village and community tourism models in the province. They then returned home and began developing tourism models.
Recently, leaders of Son La province and Moc Chau district, in conjunction with the Great project, have paid more attention to investing in community-based tourism development in some villages in Son La Province, including the Mong village in Ta So.
Based on the intact traditional cultural identity of the H’Mong ethnic group and favorable nature, people in the two villages have built a civilized lifestyle. In the village, every house is numbered, both sides of the village roads are clean and planted with many flowers. From the elderly to children, everyone wears traditional costumes.
Currently, the village has 7 households registered to pioneer conducting community tourism with the motto "developing tourism to preserve the cultural identity." Homestay service providing households always give priority to preserving traditional beauty and many unique professions of the Mong people such as brocade weaving, blacksmithing, flute making...
Leaders of Chieng Hac commune, Moc Chau district said that they will renovate the entire landscape of the village; retain old houses; restore the traditional craft of forging agricultural tools, embroidery, and brocade weaving for daily use and sell to the market; preserve typical cultural features such as H’Mong khen dance, love song, folk games such as throwing pao, beating conch, pounding banh day.
In the past year, Ban Ta So welcomed thousands of visitors. Local people's lives have gradually improved, the average income of each household has increased, reaching 38 million VND per year (according to statistics of Chieng Hac commune).
Mr. Tran Xuan Viet - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province - said that for cultural preservation programs and projects, the province focuses on preserving and developing the cultural identity of ethnic groups in Moc Chau. With the advantage of the natural landscape, the local government directs people to exploit the potential and advantages to do community tourism.
According to the general planning of Son La province for the period 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, the tourist areas of Moc Chau district will develop and become key tourist areas.
