A taxi driver in Danang City has been sacked after being found overcharging a South Korean tourist on August 4.

For the over 5-km-long trip, the tourist charged VND700,000 (USD30)

Danang Taxi Association confirmed the news on August 6. 

At around 10 pm on August 4, a South Korean tourist caught a taxi from Danang International Airport to a hotel on An Thuong 26 Street. For the 5-km-long trip, she was charged VND700,000 (USD30).

After hearing about the complaint, the hotel's owner helped her reported the case to the Department of Transport who asked for the cooperation from the Danang Taxi Association. They found out that Nguyen Truong Giang of Hai Van Taxi Firm was the driver that overcharged the tourist.

During a meeting with the Department of Transport, Danang Taxi Association and Hai Van Taxi Firm, Giang admitted that the trip cost only VND60,000 (USD2.64) but he had charged VND700,000.

Representatives of Hai Van Taxi Firm and Giang visited the tourist to apologise and returned the money.

Hai Van Taxi Firm said they would fine and fire Giang. Another driver who knows Korean has been assigned to drive the tourist for free during her stay in Danang. The firm also proposed to pay for the tourist's hotel.
