Vehicles get stuck on a local road in Hanoi at night.

The ban came after it was revealed recently that the number of vehicles running on the capital’s streets sharply increased in the last months of each year until the end of the Tết (Lunar New Year) holidays, causing huge pressure on transport infrastructure.

In addition, with the city constructing several major transport works, roads had become narrower, creating more pressure on road users, the department said.

Taxis have been banned from operating from 6:30am to 8:30am and 4pm to 6pm on working days on the streets of Hoàng Hoa Thám, Ngọc Hà, Mai Xuân Thưởng and Thụy Khuê.

They are also prohibited to run from 6am to 9am and 4:30pm to 7:30pm on working days on the streets of Giảng Võ, Láng Hạ, Lê Văn Lương, Trường Chinh (the section from Vương Thừa Vũ to Tôn Thất Tùng) and Khâm Thiên.

Taxis are not allowed on Chương Dương Bridge (the direction from Nguyễn Văn Cừ Street to Trần Nhật Duật Street) on working days between 6am and 9am.

The ban also stops taxis from operating on Hàng Bài Street (the section connecting Trần Hưng Đạo and Lý Thường Kiệt Street) between 7pm and 12pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Additionally, the streets of Phủ Doãn (the section linking Tràng Thi Street to Hàng Bông Street), Cầu Giấy, Xuân Thủy and in Alley 897 of Giải Phóng Street. are also on the list that bans taxis. — VNS
