On May 6, a 12-second video clip spread on social networks, catching the attention of many people. In the clip, a female teacher could be seen forcing a male student to lie on a table. She then hit him on the buttocks with a ruler.

This occurred on May 4 at Hung Vuong Secondary School in Tuy Hoa City in Phu Yen province during a literature lesson.

Explaining her behavior, T, the teacher in the clip, said she became irritated when the student yawned and created noise in the class, and did not admit his mistake.

Nguyen Xuan Son, headmaster of Hung Vuong Secondary School, said a meeting occurred after the incident took place and the teacher was suspended.

A physical education teacher was suspended on May 6 at Thanh My Loi Secondary School in Thu Duc City.

According to parents, on April 29  the teacher convened five students to the supervisor’s room to review their lesson. During the process, the teacher showed “deviant behavior”, kissed the forehead of L, 14, a female student, and touched the back.

Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen, head of the Thu Duc City Education and Training Sub-department, said the agency suspended the teacher for 15 days in accordance with the Law on Public Employees.

Nguyen said that his agency will cooperate with the police. If he is guilty, the teacher will be heavily sanctioned.

Meanwhile, the discipline council of Cao Ba Quat High School is considering the responsibility of a teacher who was reported as allowing students to fight each other in class and not trying to stop the fight.

Accident from ceiling fan 

A ceiling fan suddenly fell onto three students of a 6A7 class at Vinh Quynh Secondary School on April 27. One of them was injured and brought to the hospital.

Vinh Quynh is a newly built school opened several months ago.

On May 6, Le Thinh, Headmaster of Vinh Quynh, told reporters that on April 29, the injured student returned to school in good physical and mental health.

The construction unit apologized to the student's family, school administration, parents and students for the incident.

Students register to attend high school finals online

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has for the first time allowed registration online for high school finals. The ministry has reserved one week for students to practice on the registration system before making an official registration.

The time for registration is from May 4 to 5 pm of May 13.

MOET reported that as of May 5 at 5 pm, as many as 355,369 students had registered.

‘Doctor of badminton’

The doctoral dissertation on solutions to develop badminton for civil servants in Son La City has raised controversy.

The dissertation was successfully defended at the Institute of Sport Sciences under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The author of the dissertation, Dang Hoang Anh, is a physical education lecturer at the Center for National Defense and Security Education at Tay Bac University, in Son La City.

Some people have criticized the dissertation, saying that the topic is nonsensical and unsuitable for a doctoral dissertation. They also say that the topic doesn’t have high practical value. Others thought it is a joke and were astonished when realizing the dissertation was real.

Duong Xuan Luong, Deputy Director of the Center for National Defense and Security Education of Tay Bac University), said the doctoral dissertation of Dang Hoang Anh was evaluated by the appraisal council, graded and approved.

Tran Hieu, Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences, a representative of the training unit, confirmed that the dissertation was published in December 2021 and successfully defended on January 19, 2022. It was appraised by the appraisal council through many rounds, which strictly followed procedures.
