The Airbus A350 aircraft of Vietnam Airlines returned to Ha Noi yesterday afternoon two days after being stranded in Paris due to problems in a wing of the aircraft.

The aircraft arrived at Noi Bai airport at around 4:30pm yesterday.

Airbus experts said the technical issues developed in the control system of the aircraft's wing flaps (the moveable devices mounted on the trailing edges of the wings to alter their lift characteristics when taking off and landing).

"All technical problems of the Airbus A350 aircraft have been fixed," a representative of Vietnam Airlines said. "The aircraft is now able to function normally."

Around the time the Airbus A350 landed, flight VN18D that Vietnam Airlines sent to Paris also brought back more than 160 passengers to Ha Noi.

The airline transported all the passengers back to the city's central areas and incurred all costs. It also kept in touch with the passengers to assist them with necessary procedures.

More than 200 passengers were stranded in Paris from January 3 to January 5 after the Airbus A350 developed technical problems.

A day after the incident occurred, Vietnam Airlines decided to send its Boeing 777 aircraft to Paris. After getting permission to fly across more than 20 countries and preparing safety solutions, the flight arrived in Paris on January 5 and picked up 161 passengers.

Some other passengers were transferred to flights of other airlines that transited through Singapore and Haneda (Japan).

Right after the incident occurred on January 3, Vietnam Airlines made contact with experts from Airbus to examine the aircraft, Nguyen Quoc Phuong, director of the airline's representative office in France and Europe said.

The airline took care of 201 passengers during the time they were stranded in Paris by offering meal services and an unspecified amount as compensation.

As it was the peak season of the year, there was a shortage of available seats when the airline's branch in Paris tried to transfer some of the passengers to other airlines though it had offered to pay the highest costs.

Vietnam Airlines sent its apologies to the affected passengers on flight VN18 with the Airbus A350 aircraft.
