One year after leaving Microsoft Vietnam and working for Nguyen Hoang, an education group, for several months, Vu Minh Tri in 2018 joined VNG Group, holding the post of deputy CEO in charge of computing services, one of the key platforms of VNG in its new development stage. The division provides cloud infrastructure to VNG and services to clients outside.

The year 2018 saw many well-known CEOs of technology firms change jobs. They included former Microsoft Vietnam CEO Vu Minh Tri, former Uber Vietnam CEO Dang Viet Dung and Facebook Vietnam Country Director Le Diep Kieu Trang.

Tri is a well known face in the Vietnamese technology community, with 13 years in the posts of CEO of large technology firms in Vietnam, including Sony Ericsson Vietnam, Yahoo Vietnam, Qualcomm and Microsoft Vietnam.

Dang Viet Dung works for VNG

In early 2018, local newspapers reported that the post of Head of Payment Business VNG was assigned to Dang Viet Dung.

The former CEO of Uber Vietnam now is in charge of developing all VNG payment services, including ZaloPay and 123Pay.

VNG’s official press release says that Dung praised VNG’s eagerness for learning and efforts to change users’ behaviors.

Dung worked for three years for Uber, since 2014. During his tenure, Uber witnessed strong development in Vietnam, becoming a big threat to traditional taxi firms. However, because of Uber’s strategic changes, Uber decided to sell Uber Vietnam to Grab, its rival.

Lenovo manager

In April 2018, Lenovo appointed Nguyen Van Giap to the post of country director in charge of the Vietnamese market.

Before joining Lenovo, he spent eight years working for Microsoft where he had important posts, including head of marketing & retail, and country director in charge of solutions for small & medium enterprises.

Facebook Vietnam’s director leaves

In early December 2018, Facebook Vietnam CEO Le Diep Kieu Trang unexpectedly wrote on her personal page on Facebook that she would leave the company on January 1, 2019.

The reason behind the decision, according to Trang, is that she had found it difficult to arrange her personal affairs.

Trang joined Facebook staff in March 2018 as country CEO. She is a well-known name in the business circle with a period working for McKinsey, a management consulting firm.

Trang and her husband, Vu Xuan Son, established Misfit Wearables, a successful startup specializing in wearable fitness trackers which received huge investments.
