According to Statista, Vietnam is among the top 10 markets that favor the app, with 12 million downloads reported for 2022. Digital Report said that in early 2023, 31.5 percent of Vietnamese internet users aged 16-64 had used Telegram.

There are no current statistics about the number of users, but experts believe that with the growth of blockchain and cryptocurrency in Vietnam and of marketing campaigns conducted on Telegram, the number of users of the platform soared in 2023. Many Facebook, Zalo and WhatsApp users have shifted to Telegram because of its outstanding features.

Vu Ngoc Son, CEO of the National Cyber ​​Security Technology JSC (NCS), said Telegram creates groups for chats and creates topics in each group. The number of group members is large, without many constraints and restrictions in file sizes and content. The users can make calls quickly, and voice quality is stable. 

More importantly, all these features are free. These are all great advantages of Telegram compared with other apps, which explains why the number of Telegram users is increasing rapidly.

Thanh Nguyen, a well-known social network service provider in HCM City, believes that security is one of the reasons why blockchain projects and cryptocurrency investors choose Telegram for their marketing campaigns. 

Meanwhile, users fear that their data on Facebook and Zalo may be controlled one day. Therefore, they have decided to move to Telegram where they can exchange business information and sensitive information that needs high security level.

However, experts have warned that the increase in the number of users will be associated with a rise in the number of criminals on the app.

According to Son, scams can occur blatantly on Telegram and attract many participants because the platform has groups with a high number of members. Moreover, the content on Telegram is not censored and chat histories can be deleted easily.

The platform also supports API (Application Programming Interface), allowing software developers to program software that interacts with users or chat groups automatically.

Thanks to that, scammers can create many virtual accounts that give fake information, making group members feel as if there are many users and many of them can earn money or prizes. 

But in fact, these subjects are in the same groups. After successfully deceiving victims, they can silently leave and delete all content.
