On the morning of November 30, many visitors were surprised to find they could no longer park at the popular tourist site.
According to the Temperature of Literature’s staff, on November 27, Nguyen Hoang Giap, vice chairman of Dong Da District People’s Committee demanded the site’s Culture and Science Centre halt the operation of the parking lot.
"The centre will only resume allowing the parking lot when receiving the approval from management agencies,” a staff member of the Temperature of Literature cited the document as saying. He also advised visitors to take a taxi there because it was not easy to find parking lots around the temple.
To Van Dong, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that part of the Temple of Literature’s Giam Garden was used as the parking lot but the garden belongs to the historical site. So, the parking lot was in alleged violation of the Heritage Law.
Dong added that he had sent a document to the municipal authorities, seeking their permission to the temporary use the parking lot while waiting for the solution from the city; however, he had not yet received a reply.
The halt of the parking lot will affect visitors and staff alike, Dong said.
