VietNamNet Bridge – Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong has signed the Resolution on the basic and comprehensive reform of education and training which was brought to discussion during the 8th Plenary session of the 11th Party Central Committee
VietNamNet Bridge – Duong Trung Quoc, well-known historian and National Assembly Deputy, said that in response to public concern, new text books should now mention the services and contributions rendered by the late General Vo Nguyen Giap.
VietNamNet Bridge – Textbooks used in teaching and learning at general schools are believed to provide standard knowledge. However, educators have found a lot of mistakes in the books.
School curricula and textbooks needed to be geared more towards practical knowledge rather than theory, said experts at a recent meeting held by the National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children.
Educators have all agreed that it’s necessary to rewrite the history textbooks which are too academic and boring for students. However, it’s still unclear who will write the new set of textbooks and what standards to follow when compiling the books.
Since state owned schools provide different education quality, parents have to spend big money in “under-the-table fees” to obtain the seats at prestigious schools for their children.
While literary authors now feel more secure because their copyright has been protected by the laws, the authors of on-fiction books cannot be so optimistic.
