VietNamNet Bridge - Singha Asia Holding Pte Ltd (Singha) has transferred $650 million to theMasan Group.
Of this, $600 million is to buy 14.3% stake in Masan Consumer Holdings. The remainder, about $450 million, will be transferred later, to complete the upgrade of Singha ownership in Masan Consumer Holdings to 25%.
The remaining $50 million of the $650 million amount is to purchase additional shares in Masan Brewery, to raise the ownership percentage to 33.3%.
The $600 million investment in Masan Consumer Holdings will be used to purchase additional shares of Masan Consumer in the food and non-alcoholic beverages business of Masan.
Thus, the percentage of ownership of Masan Consumer Holdings in Masan Consumer will increase from 77.8% to 96.7%.
Singha, an affiliate of Boon Rawd Brewery, is the first and largest beer firm of Thailand. The company is producing products with different brands such as Singha, Leo, B-ing, Purra, Sanvo ... through 50 subsidiaries.
Singha is also considered one of the foreign partners, which intend to own shares in the Saigon Beverages Corporation (Sabeco).
Singha is under the control of billionaire Santi Bhirombhakdi’s family. This family owns property portfolio amounted to $2.9 billion. He is the 7th richest man in Thailand.
Earlier, on December 25, 2015, the strategic partnership announcement ceremony between Masan and Singha was conducted under the chairmanship of Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang, chairman of Masan.
According to both sides, the cooperation between Singha and Masan will allow the two groups to have the opportunity to expand the food and drinks market in the region, focusing on Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos.
