Thái from Nam Định took the lead with a time of 3:55.67, followed by Phạm Tiến Sản of Bắc Giang and Nguyễn Trung Cường of Hà Tĩnh.
At the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Malaysia in August, Thái grabbed a gold medal at 3:51:44 in this category. He also won a gold in the 800m with a time of 1:48.97.
So far, Thái has won six SEA Games gold medals.
On the women’s side, Nguyễn Thị Oanh brought Bắc Giang a gold medal after clocking a time of 4:20.16. Vũ Thị Ly of Ninh Bình took the silver medal with a time of 4:29.58 and Phạm Thị Thúy Hạnh of Hà Nam gained a bronze with 4:32.42.
Yesterday, fans also eyed the men’s 200m category in which 22-year-old Lương Văn Thao of Thanh Hóa seized a gold medal with a time of 21.36. The silver and bronze medal went to Nguyễn Văn Châu of Bình Dương and Bùi Bá Hạnh of the Military team.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old girl Lê Tú Chinh of HCM City proved herself in the women’s 200m as she finished first with a time of 23.36sec. Chinh’s teammate Lê Thị Mộng Tuyền and Hoàng Thị Ngọc of Quảng Bình were the runners-up with 24.02sec and 24.34sec, respectively.
In the men’s 10,000m category, Đỗ Quốc Luật of the Military team defeated Lê Văn Thao of Thanh Hóa at the finish line to claim the gold with a time of 32:17.64. The bronze medal went to Vũ Văn Sơn of Ninh Bình with a time of 32:45.15.
In the final of women’s javelin throw, Bùi Thị Xuân of the Military team shone with a shot of 53.09m. With this wonderful performance, she won gold and broke her own national record of 52.50m which she set at the Games in Malaysia.
With a throw of 49.96m, Lò Thị Hoàng of Sơn La took home a silver, while Bùi Thị Trang of the Military team received a bronze for her result of 44.07m.
In the men’s pole vault, Nguyễn Văn Huệ grabbed a gold medal for Hải Dương team with a jump of 4.75m. Bùi Văn Chung of the Military team and Trần Bá Linh of Đà Nẵng got a silver and bronze medal, respectively.
Huệ is the national record holder in this division with his achievement of 4.91m set in the same event held two years ago in HCM City.
After seven days of competition, the Military team topped the medal tally with seven golds, seven silvers and seven bronzes. Hà Nội ranked second with six golds, eight silvers and three bronzes, while the hosts HCM City went to third with five golds, five silvers and five bronzes.
