Thanh Hoa People's Committee has turned down a proposal from Sam Son City's authorities to make a giant cake as an offering for the nearing Hung Kings Festival.
A giant rice cake in Sam Son
Chairman of Thanh Hoa Province Nguyen Dinh Xung confirmed on February 27 that they would not make any giant rice cake (Banh Day) to the Hung Kings Festival.
On the other hand, San Son City is where the annual Rice Cake Festival (Banh Chung and Banh Day) is held so they can proceed to make the giant cake for their local festival.
"Sam Son City's authorities have only proposed the idea. Nothing has been done yet," Xung said.
Pham Dang Quyen, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Province People's Committee, has sent an official document to the city authorities to reject the proposal.
Sam Son City's authorities sought permission from Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to make a giant rice cake as an offering to Hung Kings on February 2.
The cake would weigh in over three tonnes. A cake carrying parade was scheduled to start from Sam Son City to the Hung Kings Temple.
Ten days later, the provincial department of culture, sports and tourism were asked to work with related agencies to consider the proposal, taking into account the laws and traditional customs of Vietnam.
This year, the Hung Kings Festival will take place between April 21 and 25.
The northern province of Thai Nguyen, the central province of Quang Nam and the southern provinces of Binh Duong and Kien Giang will jointly hold the festival with Phu Tho Province.
The five provinces will agree on the financial contribution for the festival as well as an upgrade the Hung Kings Temple Site, depending on their capacity.
