Hoi An ancient town, a world cultural heritage site, in the central province of Quang Nam has attracted countless visitors who delight in looking out on the spectacular sunsets on the Hoai River.
The ancient town of Hoi An was recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1999. It is situated on the Hoai River - a tributary of the Thu Bon River, about 30km from Da Nang city. Most of the houses were built in the traditional style from the 17th to the 19th centuries, crowded along small streets throughout the town. One or two-storey houses like ‘tube houses’ are the most popular style of building in Hoi An. Visitors can savour the scenic views as they cruise along the Hoai river at sunset. Or walk along the ancient streets to enjoy a vast array of colourful lanterns. Tourists can stop at streetside shops to talk to friends or enjoy a bowl of Cao Lao (noodle dish of Hoi An) ..or discover other delicious food like Banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes) and My Quang (Quang noodles) when cruising along the Hoai River. Chua Cau, or the Japanese bridge, is a highlight of the ancient town. It was built by Japanese merchants in the 16th century. Chua Cau at night.
