The Supreme People’s Procuracy has decided to prosecute three women for illegal transportation of drugs.

The three defendants have been identified as Trinh Thi Hai Ha, 53, from Son La Province, Nguyen Thi Hien, 47, and Tran Thi Dong, 45, both from Hanoi.

On April 18, 2016, Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District police in coordination with their counterparts in Hoa Binh Province caught Ha carrying 40 bricks of heroin, weighing 14.2kg, in a taxi on National Highway 6 in the province.

Following a deeper investigation, the police arrested Dong. According to the People’s Police newspaper, Hien, who was absconding at that time, was also arrested.

The three accused admitted to transporting drugs to earn a profit. Dong and Ha earned VNĐ10 million (US$440) after successfully transporting one cake of heroin from Son La to Hanoi for Hien.

According to the police, the three women, together, carried 73 bricks of heroin (some 26kg) from Son La to Hanoi between the end of 2015 and April 2016.

Cao Xuan Huong, the taxi driver, who ferried the accused with heroin, has not been charged due to a lack of evidence, the police said.
