Three police officers have been killed and three others injured in an explosion at Dak Lak Provincial Police Station on Monday evening according to local police.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Bui Trong Tuan from Dak Lak Provincial Police Department told a press meeting held on Tuesday morning that the explosion at a chemical storeroom in the station on December 12 evening had killed three police officers and injured three others.

"That was an accident, not a terror attack" Tuan confirmed.

Director of the provincial police department, Tran Ky Roi told the media on Monday evening that the explosion occurred at around 8.40pm.

"We're investigating the cause of the explosion," Roi said

Locals said there had been a loud explosion that had lasted around 10 seconds and could be heard as far as half a kilometre away.

Other people living near the police station said that they felt their houses shake and smelt gas and explosives.

Several houses next to the station at lane 25 Tran Hung Dao Street were destroyed in the explosion.




 The victims are being treated at Dak Lak Provincial General Hospital on December 12.
