Hanoi People’s Court on Tuesday sentenced three people to death for drug trafficking and transportation.

Nguyen Van Hoang, 41, resident of Hanoi’s Hai Ba Trung District’s Thanh Nhàn Ward, was handed the death sentence on Tuesday for drug trafficking.

According to the indictment, on June 27, police caught Nguyễn Văn Hoàng while he was on his way to sell heroin in Hoàng Mai District. Hoàng was found to have more than 9g of heroin in his possession.

The police also seized over 720g of heroin while searching his house.

Hoàng confessed that on the evening of June 24, a man came to Hoàng’s house to offer his condolences upon hearing of the demise of Hoàng’s father.

The man later suggested Hoàng become a drug retailer for him, and Hoàng agreed.

The man sold the heroin to Hoàng at a price of VNĐ320 million (US$14,220).

According to the deal, Hoàng had to pay the man once he sold the drug.

He was, however, arrested on June 27.

In another case, Bồ Thị Kim Thoa, 27, and Vũ Ngọc Hoàng, 24, from Hưng Yên Province, also received death sentences for illegally transporting the drugs.

During the trial on Tuesday, it was mentioned that Thoa had a friend named Dương Hữu Tùng.

In early March, Tùng phoned Thoa asking her to receive a package containing drugs sent from abroad for which she would be rewarded handsomely.

Tùng also called Vũ Ngọc Hoàng and asked him to co-ordinate with Thoa to go to Hà Nội to get the package.

Hoàng drove the car to take Thoa to Hà Nội’s Cầu Giấy District Post Office to receive the goods.

However, when police stopped the car for checking, Thoa managed to get away. After hiding in Hải Phòng City and Hải Dương Province for about a month, she was arrested on April 7.

Hoàng and Thoa illegally transported more than 7,405g of synthetic drugs, the court said. – VNS
