Pianist Nguyen Viet Trung

The featured musicians are violinist Do Phuong Nhi, pianist Nguyen Viet Trung, and cellist Tran Hong Nhung.

The concert will consist of solo performances and trios of masterpieces by world composers such as Camille Saint Saens (France), David Popper (Hungary), Beethoven (Germany) and Sergei Rachmaninoff (Russia).

The highlight of the concert will be Trio Elegiaque, which is known for its sweet yet mournful expression.

“This will be the first time I play music with pianist Trung. I admire him a lot,” said violinist Nhi. “I’m overjoyed to have the rare chance to perform with two talented musicians like Trung and Nhung.”

The young musicians are studying abroad. The concert is a chance for the artists to play music together during their summer vacation.

Nhi, 18, is currently studying at the Barratt-Due Institute of Music, Oslo. Last year, she won first prize at the Sparre Olsen competition for young talent in Giovik, Norway. She performed as a soloist with the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Centre on May 14.

She will play a solo piece entitled Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso to open the VNAM concert.

Award-winning pianist Trung won Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland’s Young Passion Scholarship in 2014. He is studying at Karol Szymanowski State School of Music. The 20-year pianist has won many prizes, including 2nd prize at the Chopin International Competition for “Chopin for the Youngest” in 2010, 2nd prize at the Rotary International Piano Competition in Spain in 2011, and the Grand Prize at the National Piano Competition in Krakow, Poland in 2014.

At the Hanoi concert, Trung will play Beethoven’s Variations in C minor.

Cellist Nhung will play Hungarian Rhapsody at the concert.

Nhung was honoured as the only Vietnamese master violoncellist in the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2013-14. She is studying at Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow.  She placed third at the International Prokofiev Competition in May.

The concert will kick off at 8pm on July 26 at 77 Hao Nam Street in Hanoi. For tickets and information call: 0979523096 or 0972292454 or 0976768302.
