VietNamNet Bridge – Thunderstorms that lasted nearly two hours in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap damaged hundreds of houses. Hails appeared in some places.
In the afternoon of May 29, thunderstorms lasted for nearly two hours in the city of Cao Lanh, Sa Dec town and the districts of Lap Vo, Cao Lanh and Binh Thanh. Hundreds of trees in the city of Cao Lanh and Cao Lanh district uprooted and fell into the street and houses.
According to initial statistics from the local governments, about 200 houses were damaged, mostly in the city of Cao Lanh. In particular, many houses had the walls collapsed due to falling trees but there was no casualty.
Ms. Thu Truc in Ward 1, Cao Lanh city busted into tear when she came home and found out that her house collapsed because of falling trees. The refrigerator, TV set and a lot of appliances were damaged. Fortunately, her children were in school at the time of the incident so they are safe.
Mr. Tran Anh Dung, director of Dong Thap Department of Home Affairs, said there were several trees uprooted after thunderstorms near his office.
Nguyen Van Dung, Deputy Police Chief of Tan My Commune in Lap Vo District, Dong Thap, said the same day thunderstorms occurred in his commune, damaging many houses. "Hail lasted about five minutes. Looking to the road, I saw hails at the size of finger," Dung said.
