Mr. Nguyen Van Nam said auto tire recycling has become a job in Hoa Binh Village since the resistance war against the US. At that time, locals used automobile tires to make rubber sandals for soldiers. Now they can make many other products from tires, such as rubber bands, pig troughs, etc..
This is a job for men. They use the lever or their weight to soften the tires before recycling them into other rubber products.
With over 20 years of experience, Mr. Nguyen Van Dam, 57, said this job requires good health.
Dam said he and his wife earn a stable income from the job.
They use very simple tools.
A man can recycle from 300 to 350 old automobile tires a month, said a worker named Khanh.
