Hanoi will adjust the routes of coaches from other provinces to limit the number of coaches going though the city’s centre and causing traffic jams, transport experts said.



The Vietnam News Agency conducted a study that shows that every day about 80 coach routes go through the central of Hanoi, a fact that can be linked to many of the traffic jams in main streets in the capital.


To reduce the problem, the Hanoi Department of Transport has several times this year set up plans to move some coach routes from the My Dinh Terminal to the Nuoc Ngam Terminal to limit the number of coaches going through central of Hanoi and ensure working capacity of the Nuoc Ngam Terminal.

But until now, the department’s proposals were not accepted by coach enterprises, as they said that the movement would affect their working schedule and residents’ travelling demand.

Following guidance of chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, the Hanoi Department of Transport has sent a report to the municipal People’s Committee about their adjustment for coach routes going through central Hanoi.

In the report, the department asked the Giap Bat, Nuoc Ngam, My Dình, Yen Nghaa and Gia Lam terminals to make statistics of the number of coaches from other provinces coming to the terminals, and allocate the coaches to different proper routes.

Dao Viet Long, head of the Transport Management Division under the Hanoi Department of Transport, said that the department has collected ideas from coach enterprises to form the most suitable plan, reported the plan to the city authorities and is waiting for approval.

Chairman of the Hanoi Transport Association Bui Danh Lien said that the city should pay more attention to connecting the system of public vehicles, especially in the inner city.
