At their talks, the top leader of Vietnam reiterated the country’s consistent implementation of an external policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification of external relations, and proactive international integration on the principle of mutual respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions.

He also affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent policy of attaching great importance to developing the comprehensive partnership with the US.

President Trump thanked Vietnam for its careful preparation for the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit despite of short notice.

He said the US attaches importance to the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam as well as the role of Vietnam in the Asian-Pacific region.

He added that the US will continue cooperating with Vietnam to promote their comprehensive partnership in a more pragmatic and effective manner in the coming time.

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong and President Donald Trump witnessed the signing of four cooperation agreements between Vietnam and the US with a total value of about 21 billion USD.

President Trump arrived at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on late February 26 for his second summit with Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un, who arrived in Vietnam earlier the same day.

Trump was welcomed by Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Chairman of the Hanoi city People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Deputy Minister of Public Security Bui Van Nam, Vice Chairman of the President’s Office Chu Van Yem, and Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc.

This is the second time the US President has come to Vietnam. In November 2017, he paid an official visit to Vietnam and attended the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in the central coastal city of Da Nang.
