VietNamNet Bridge – After many years in the army, Mr. Le Van So was determined to make up for his absence by sharing the farm work with his wife who is seven years younger. They live in Tra Que village in the historic town of Hoi An.

After nearly 10 years knowing each other, in 1949 So married Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi. The couple live in Tra Que vegetable village in Cam Ha commune, Hoi An town, Quang Nam province, which is a popular tourist site. During the war, So participated in revolutionary activities, and was arrested and imprisoned for many years.

At home, Loi waited for her husband in tears.

In 1954, So returned home to the happiness of his wife. After years of living away from each other, the couple had five children. So decided to stay at home to help his wife as a way of “compensation”.

In addition to his wife and children, the joy of the veteran is playing with his dog.

The couple, now aged 92 and 85, still work in their vegetable garden every day. They are the oldest farmers in Tra Que village.

The couple welcomes seven to 10 groups of foreign visitors to their garden each day.

French photographer Renahn took many photos of the couple and called them "The old love of Hoi An."

They are not only good at growing vegetables, but are also proficient at making bamboo tools.

Through many years of misery, So’s hands are callous and wrinkled but he does not stop working.

Villagers admire the couple and voted them the top couple in the village for long-lasting love and labor.
