Compared to the same period from last year, numbers of accidents, deaths, and injuries rose by 2.8 times, 1.9 times, and 3.2 times, respectively.
On average, there were 72 traffic accidents recorded on the daily basis nationwide, killing 30 people and injuring 32 others.
The GSO statistics show the country reported 1,697 traffic accidents in one month from February 15 to March 14 alone, leaving 743 dead and 748 injuried.
Notably, the number of traffic accidents in March stood at nearly 2.4 times higher than March, 2023. The figures of deaths and injuries were also 1.9 times and 2.7 times higher than the same period last year.
In an effort to reduce traffic accidents, the government is stepping up a communication campaign on the obedience of traffic laws, with hefty fines to be levied on drink driving.
The police are also getting tough on other offences related to speed limit, luggage overload, traffic light negligence, and driving documents.
