According to the National Committee for Traffic Safety, the figures represented respective drops of 17.8 percent, 11.7 percent and 34.8 percent.
The committee also said traffic jams were recorded in many places, especially in ring roads and gateways of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on April 28 afternoon and April 29 morning as people flocked to their homelands and other localities for holidays.
Traffic congestions were reported in some areas of southern Binh Duong and Tien Giang provinces. Traffic was also congested in the northern port city of Hai Phong, central Thanh Hoa province and a toll station on Hanoi-Phap Van expressway due to the high number of vehicles.
Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Khuat Viet Hung said traffic police nationwide handled up to 23,790 road and waterway traffic safety violation cases, imposing fines of more than 11.5 billion VND, seizing 98 cars and almost 3,600 motorbikes and revoking 1,012 driving licences.
Chief of the committee’s office Nguyen Trong Thai said its hotline received 25 calls and messages complaining of increased prices of bus tickets, coaches carrying more passengers than permitted and traffic congestions.
The committee ordered relevant agencies to look into the complaints and deal with violators, he said.
