VietNamNet Bridge - National Road 31, traversing Luc Ngan district of Bac Giang province, has recorded kilometers-long congestions as traders are flocking to this litchi planting hub to buy the fruit for which it is famous.
This year's litchi output in the northern province of Bac Giang is estimated at over 130,000 tons, lower than 2015.
The volume of litchi transport vehicles has exceeded the capacity of National Road 31.
The congestion is reported in many litchi trading hubs in Luc Ngan district such as Chu town and Kep T-junction.
Vehicles continually come in and out of trading centers, causing serious congestion.
Litchi prices in Luc Ngan are between VND15,000 - VND20,000 VND ($0.67 - $0.9 USD) per kilo.
Trucks from across Vietnam, such as the central provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Quang Nam, have flocked to Luc Ngan to buy litchis. A large volume of the fruit has also been exported to China.
Some traders have taken advantage of the congestion to force litchi prices down, even to VND7,000 - VND8,000 ($0.31 - $0.36) per kilo.
Some traders played tricks such as driving big trucks to obstruct roads and cause congestions so as to buy litchis at low prices, according to local farmers.
Motorbike riders have to wait for hours to move along.
A motorbike usually carries almost 200kg of litchis at a time, which can easily make it fall down.
