A representative of the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi Police has dismissed claims that a young man earned 50 million VND (approximately 2,100 USD) in a day by reporting traffic violations, stating that the information is false.

On the evening of January 3, several social media accounts shared posts claiming, “Hanoi: A young man earns 50 million VND in a single day for reporting traffic violations.”

A screenshot of the shared information revealed the claim spreading across various platforms.

Upon reviewing the situation, a representative of the Traffic Police Department clarified that the claim was fabricated and misleading. They emphasized that such misinformation could disrupt public understanding and harm the spirit of the ongoing campaign encouraging citizens to report traffic violations.

The campaign, titled “All citizens participate in identifying and reporting traffic violations,” has been actively implemented and yielded tangible results in 2024. Through this initiative, authorities have addressed 2,609 cases of violations and issued fines totaling 2.7 billion VND (approximately 113,400 USD).

To facilitate public participation, Hanoi Police have established a Zalo page named "Traffic Police Department of Hanoi Police" and a hotline at 0243.942.4451, allowing citizens to report traffic violations.

The department encourages individuals to share information, images, and videos of activities that damage traffic infrastructure, contribute to environmental pollution, or pose risks of congestion and accidents.

Officials stressed the importance of ensuring that reported information remains objective and accurate. The process of receiving, verifying, and addressing these reports must adhere to timely and lawful procedures. Additionally, the identities of individuals providing information are protected to ensure confidentiality.
