The victims were identified as two children aged three from Cẩm Lĩnh Commune and a five year old from Thuần Mỹ Commune.
The incident occurred at 10.15 pm on Sunday when police in Ba Trại Commune were alerted to the collapse of a wall in a house of Trần Văn Việt in village 6, with three trapped under the rubble.
Heavy rainfall in the area made the rescue attempts extremely dangerous, with authorities at the scene reporting that the terrain's sloping hillside and the subsequent run off of rainwater, had contributed to the structural failure of the building.
Immediate search and rescue efforts were taken by authorities, with leadership from the local People's Committee who oversaw operations, while also coordinating support for the affected families.
The area remains cordoned off while the local authorities investigate the cause of the fatal incident.
The area was previously the scene of another deathly accident when on February 16, also in Ba Trại Commune, two men died when a well wall they were working on collapsed. — VNS
