A car was hit by a train while crossing the railway in the northern province of Hai Duong, leaving two people dead.

The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Ai Quoc Ward, Hai Duong City. The car transporting five people was hit by a train running from Haiphong to Hanoi.

All of the five people in the car were injured while trapped in the wreckage. Locals and ambulance staff managed to extract them, but two of them died on the way to hospital.

Dinh Duy Do, vice chairman of Ai Quoc Ward said that the car driver was Le Van Loc, 29, from Gia Loc District, Hai Duong Province. He was one of the dead.

All the people in the car were relatives who visited Ai Quoc Ward’s Vu Xa Village for a wedding.

The three injured are all elderly.

According to Do, there were no barriers to separate the road from the railway, except for warning lights and siren but an inattentive driver could cross the track even when a train was coming.

The case is still under investigation.
