Chien is a former national team footballer who has experience coaching Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Ho Chi Minh City football clubs. Last year he worked as a technical director of Kon Tum FC.

Previously, Chien had been assistant coach to Hoang Anh Tuan in the U17, U20, and U23 national teams.

Chien also spent many years working at the PVF Football Training Center. As scheduled, the U17 team will gather together on April 11 in Hanoi.

A total of 36 footballers have been called up to the squad with Song Lam Nghe An FC having the largest number of representatives with five players. The Cong Viettel, Ha Tinh, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau have sent four footballers each to the national team.

Local footballers will take part in a training camp in May ahead of the AFF U17 Championship 2024 which will start in June in Indonesia.
