Ba Deo Mountain holds a deep cultural and emotional connection to the people of the former Ha Long City. From March 2019 to January 2021, a vast spiritual complex - Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu - was built here amid lush pine forests.

The name Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu was given by Senior Venerable Thich Tri Tinh, Vice Patriarch of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha, and carries profound meaning.

Each word in the name holds symbolic significance: Bao means treasure or protection, Hai stands for the sea, Linh signifies sacredness, Thong refers to the pine hills, and Tu denotes the temple.

Steeped in Buddhist spirit and traditional Vietnamese cultural values, the architectural design of Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu reflects a harmonious blend of Northern Vietnamese pagoda architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries and creative applications of folk design.

All buildings within the complex - except the Ngu Phuong stupa - are constructed entirely of lim wood (ironwood), making it one of the rare all-wood spiritual structures in Vietnam.

A highlight of the design is the intricate wooden frame structure, known as “gia chieng - chong ruong,” combined with delicately stylized lotus and cloud motifs.

Spanning an area of 4,000 square meters, the complex includes the main gate, the Ngu Phuong stupa, a bell tower, a drum tower, the main hall, the ancestral house, and the Mother Goddess shrine, flanked by the left and right corridors (ta vu and huu vu).

Inside the temple, 102 statues are thoughtfully placed across various locations, enhancing the spiritual ambiance.

Because of its serene environment and breathtaking scenery, Bao Hai Linh Thong Tu has become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike who come to find solace, reflect, and heal their spirit.

Standing at nearly any point within the complex, visitors can gaze across the expanse of Ha Long Bay - an unbroken stretch of sea that disappears into the horizon.

In the heart of a bustling coastal city, this rare sanctuary offers the kind of peace and silence that modern life often forgets.
