Vu Duy Tung, director of Hai Phong City's Department of Transport, was assigned to hold the post of director of Project Management Unit of Regional Transport Works and take responsibility for all activities of the unit, especially on the progress of Hai Phong Urban Transport Development Project.

The Hai Phong Urban Transport Development Project has a total investment of over US$276 million, including US$175 million funded by the World Bank, and the remaining amount sourced from the city's budget.

The project consists of three parts. It consists the building an arterial route on the East-West corridor starting from Bac Son commune in An Duong district to Nam Hai ward in Hai An district, upgrading Tam Bac-Kien An traffic corridor and the building of bus route No 2.

At a recent meeting to review the progress of the project, the municipal People's Committee said the project was behind schedule and the site clearance at localities was just 10 per cent of the overall target. Meanwhile, the project should be completed by the end of this year, in accordance with a loan agreement signed with World Bank.

Le Van Thanh, municipal Party Committee secretary and chairman of city's People's Committee, blamed on a hesitation and lack of determination of relevant agencies for low implementation of the project.

Thanh called for a close co-ordination between the project management unit and related localities and contractor to push up the project's project.

The city authorities would allocate a financial resource to enhance the site clearance, he said.

Construction of the urban transport development project commenced on December 2013, at the Dong Hoa residential area in Kien An district.

Upon completion, the project will facilitate transportation in the inner city and for vehicles transporting commodities from outside the city to the seaport system.
