The RoK’s presidential office, known as the Blue House, had said earlier in a statement that the summit made “more meaningful progress than ever”.
It noted that Trump’s willingness to continue dialogue would brighten prospects for another meeting between him and leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un.
Speaking at a press conference after the second DPRK-US summit and before departing Hanoi the same day, the US President said no agreement has been reached on the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. According to him, the main obstacle in negotiations was that the DPRK wanted a full removal of the sanctions, but the US was not keen to meet such a demand.
However, Kim committed to not carrying out nuclear and missile tests in a reiterated show of his goodwill toward the denuclearisation.
Trump also said both sides exchanged views on various issues and had a productive time, and they left the meeting in a friendly atmosphere. –VNA
