Liu Dongjin and Lin Fenghui were sentenced to nine and two years in prison respectively for sing technical devices to steal more than $4,440 from multiple banks.

Liu Dongjin, 35, and Lin Fenghui, 32, managed to obtain some account numbers issued by international banks from an unidentified social networking site account named CC in China. They used a magnetic strip reader to make fake credit cards with the information they had got.

On June 8, 2015, Liu went to Vietnam along with his fake cards and visited the Hanoi-based Quoc Duong Company that is owned by a Chinese national. The company had a POS machine that can process payments via cards.

Using the POS, Liu managed to conduct 19 transactions the next day, totalling nearly VNĐ600 million ($26,600). Later, he withdrew VNĐ100 million ($4,440) via ATMs.

On June 10, 2015, Liu told Lin to come to Vietnam with another five fake credit cards.

The next day, Liu asked Quoc Duong’s manager to withdraw the money for Liu as he had failed to steal any cash using the same trick. They were then exposed and were reported to the police.

Liu and Lin have been sentenced to nine and two years in jail, respectively.
