Two men have been arrested for blackmailing several National Assembly deputies.

Two men detained and evidence seized for blackmailing NA deputies


Heads of the offices of the National Assembly Delegation in many cities and provinces including Hanoi, Quang Tri, Bac Ninh, Soc Trang and Ha Tinh provinces have received text messages from unknown numbers, threatening them into paying millions of VND.

Hoang Duc Cuong, NA deputy from Quang Tri Province, was one of the victims and had reported the case to the police after receiving the message. 

"Someone wants to kill you for VND100m (USD4,200). If you give me VND100m, I'll send you the name and evidence. I'll give you three days and bank account to transfer money into. If you do, I'll keep my promise and leave this place," the suspects wrote in one of the messages.

On the morning of October 19, the Ministry of Public Security announced that they had received the information and transferred the case to the Department of Criminal Investigation in Social Order (C45) to collaborate with local police departments to investigate the case.

The case progressed quickly and two suspects in HCM City have been detained who are Ngo Xuan Tung, born in 1988 in Thai Nguyen City and is living in Phu Nhuan District. The other one is Le Van Thanh, born in 1988. He is from Quang Ngai Province and is living in Hoc Mon District.

The case is still under investigation.
