Tran Mah unveiled the first showroom of heavy-duty motorbikes of the U.S. companies in HCMC’s District 10 last Sunday, with prices ranging from VND600 million (US$26,900) to VND1.4 billion a unit.

Indian Motorcycle and Victory Motorcycles are big names in the U.S. motorbike industry besides Harley-Davidson which entered Vietnam a few years ago. They plan to pick dealerships in Hanoi next year and the central city of Danang after that.

Indian Motorcycle is known for brands like Midsize, Cruiser, Bagger and Touring, while Victory Motorcycles boasts Vision, Hammer, Vegas and Octane products.

The Ministry of Transport’s decision to allow more eligible individuals to get an A2 license for riding bikes with engine capacity of over 175cc in 2014 has stoked local demand for big bikes. More foreign manufacturers of high-capacity bikes have since launched their products on the domestic market.

Previously, the A2 license was only issued for police and military officers, traffic inspectors, market monitors, forest rangers, driving examiners, and sport club members.
