In just over a month from May 11 to June 22, up to three of five international undersea fiber optic cable routes that connect Vietnam to the world, namely Asia Pacific Gateway (APG), Asia Africa Europe 1 (AAE-1) and Asia America Gateway (AAG), had problems. These incidents have been affecting the quality of Internet services in Vietnam.

According to Internet service providers (ISPs) in Vietnam, every time there is a problem with any undersea cable route, they immediately implement plans to balance the load, and adjust the traffic via other undersea and land cable routes.

However, in a situation where two undersea cable lines have problems at the same time, it is very difficult for ISPs to ensure the quality of service, especially during peak hours.

While the problem on the S6 branch of the APG undersea cable line was fixed on June 11, the problems on two other international undersea optical cables, AAE-1 and AAG, have not been fixed.

An ISP In Vietnam told VietNamNet that the plan to fix the problem that occurred on the AAE-1 cable route on May 25 has been adjusted. This is the second time the repair schedule of this cable line has been changed. Specifically, the time for repair will be changed from July 1-7 to July 2-11.

The repair schedule for the AAG line will be from July 2 to July 7.

On May 11, May 22 and June 22, the three undersea cables of APG, AAE-1 and AAG had problems, respectively. The problem on the APG cable has been fixed.

With a length of 20,191 km, the AAG route connects Southeast Asia with the US. This cable route has been put into operation since November 2009, passing through Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Hong Kong (China), the Philippines and the United States (Guam, Hawaii and California).
