VietNamNet Bridge - Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung and Dr. Nguyen Thuc Quyen have been honored by the Humboldt Foundation for their outstanding contributions.

Ass. Prof, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology received the Georg Forster Research Award and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuc Quyen from the University of California Santa Barbara, USA was awarded the Humboldt Research Award. These are two important awards granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany.

"The award motivates me to pursue the research that I have cherished for over 10 years," Dr. Hung said.

Dr. Hung said he wants to have a modern laboratory so he can be able to study in Vietnam. He said his current lab in Vietnam is poorly equipped due to serious shortage of funding. To conduct his research, Dr. Hung had to find foreign projects.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, 39, is currently a lecturer of the Construction Faculty of the HCMC University of Technology (HUTECH), Director of the Center for CIRTech Interdisciplinary Research of the HUTECH Institute.

His studies focus on the development of powerful computational tools and simulation on computer, which are being applied in the fields of mechanical engineering, biomechanics, new materials ...

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuc Quyen currently teaches at the University of California. The research team led by Quyen focuses on the organic electronic devices such as photovoltaic, LED.

The two Vietnamese scientists were previously named in the list of "the most influential scientists in the world" published by Thomson Reuters in 2015.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation was established in Germany. It grants 2,000 scholarships for foreign scientists to study in Germany each year. The Foundation supports outstanding researchers and young scientists worldwide, thereby expanding opportunities for cooperation with German scientists.

This is the second time Vietnam has two scientists receiving the prestigious awards. In 2013 the first Vietnamese scientist received the award, Dr. Nguyen The Hoang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Orthopaedic of the 108 Military Hospital.
