Due to the aftermath of Typhoon Bualoi, many schools across the provinces of Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Nghe An, Ninh Binh, and Ha Tinh closed on September 30 to ensure student safety amid prolonged heavy rains.

In response to the worsening effects of the storm’s circulation and the risk of continued downpours, the Department of Education and Training in Lao Cai issued an urgent directive requiring all educational institutions to suspend classes for over 465,000 students across preschool, general education, and vocational schools on September 30.
Starting October 1, schools are instructed to monitor weather conditions closely. If severe weather persists, school administrators must report to and seek guidance from the Provincial People’s Committee and Department of Education on whether to extend school closures.
For schools with boarding or semi-boarding students, school leaders are required to manage their students carefully and ensure adequate supplies of drinking water, food, and essential provisions, guaranteeing their well-being during the storm. If students are to be sent home, it must be done in close coordination with their families and local authorities to ensure absolute safety.
In Phu Tho, schools also issued urgent notices to parents on the morning of September 30, announcing a one-day closure due to persistent rainfall. Decisions about whether students will return the next day will be made based on real-time weather conditions.
In Thanh Hoa, the provincial Department of Education ordered schools to continue suspending classes for nearly 900,000 students at all levels on September 30. From October 1, local institutions are tasked with assessing post-typhoon weather developments and coordinating with commune or ward authorities and the Department of Education to determine if further closures are necessary.
In Thai Nguyen, Nghe An, Ninh Binh, and Ha Tinh, many schools also remained closed on September 30. For instance, in Thai Nguyen, schools such as Bac Son High School, My Yen Secondary School, and several others in Dai Tu District directed students to log in to the OLM online learning platform using assigned accounts to study from home.
In Nghe An, Typhoon Bualoi caused widespread flooding, making travel difficult for students and isolating some communities. As a result, nearly all schools in affected areas announced closures for September 30.
