On the morning of September 7, airport officials conducted final inspections of critical areas and directed the suspension of flight operations. A meeting was held with all operational units at the airport to coordinate storm preparedness.
Prior to this, starting from the afternoon of September 5, Vietnam Airlines took precautionary steps to safeguard its aircraft by securing them and moving them to safe zones ahead of the storm's arrival.
VAECO, a member of Vietnam Airlines, has overseen the securement of 15 aircraft at Noi Bai Airport. Six aircraft undergoing maintenance were relocated to storm shelters, while operational aircraft were moved to other airports with safe conditions.
In addition to securing the aircraft, measures were taken to increase their stability, such as filling the fuel tanks to enhance their weight and reduce movement caused by strong winds.
Due to the evolving situation of Typhoon Yagi, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam decided to extend the temporary suspension of flight operations at Noi Bai Airport by an additional 2 hours. Therefore, the airport will remain closed from 10 AM to 9 PM on September 7, rather than the initially planned 10 AM to 7 PM.
Following the storm, heavy rainfall is expected at Noi Bai Airport, which will lead to increased flight traffic. The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam has instructed airlines to ensure additional fuel reserves for flights scheduled between 9 PM on September 7 and 2 AM on September 8, to accommodate potential delays or diversions to alternate airports.
